‘A Day in the Life of…’ P1

A few days ago this post on Facebook attracted our most traffic ever with hundreds of you looking at a photo of a beautiful girl walking home from school. A girl who grabbed our hearts when we visited her last week. Probably one of the most memorable trips for me to rural Fiji, I found myself tearing up on more than one occasion!

This is P1 of a 2 part post that will show you a ‘Day in the Life of’ this little one, who we are hoping will now begin to thrive back at school under the watchful eye of her head teacher and Urmila, our Coordinator on the ground.

“My day starts with a pot of tea on the stove”

“Have to help mum with the baby before school”

“Get the washing on the line” (Take million dollar view for granted because I see it every day and I’m 12!)

“Some of our tomato plants, I help harvest them when they’re ripe. From this part of our land, I walk down a very grassy road, then a long, long rocky road, then I take a short ride on the bus to school. It takes me about an hour, it’s often raining”

“The flag flies high over my school grounds”

“My classroom. I’m very happy to be at school. I’ve only been back for a few months and my life is very different now…thank you”

Pt 2 will show you our young friend’s trip home and what it’s like for her there…

Your support and generosity provides a very real turning point for girls like this. Once back at school their potential can start to be unwrapped and we can’t wait to see who they will become!

Love you to join the journey,

Warmly,

Jane for team ‘a Girl & her world’
