A message from Sabrina Harvey daughter of Barbara Harvey from a Girl & her world

Sabrina and her friends wrapping cakes.

Wrapping Christmas cakes at the William Angliss Institute was such a fulfilling experience. My friends and I spent the day helping out a Girl & her world.

These cakes weren’t just desserts, the money from selling them goes towards education funds for girls in Fiji, which is what a Girl & her world does. It felt amazing to know that what we were doing could make a difference.

When we arrived at the kitchen, everything was set up for a full day of wrapping. I started off by cutting baking paper to the right size for wrapping the cakes. It was pretty satisfying to work as efficiently as I could alongside my friend Bella.

My friends jumped into other steps—some were cutting and wrapping cakes in cling wrap, and others were glueing little frangipani flowers onto the wrapping. We all switched roles throughout the day, so we got to try a bit of everything. We all worked together and enjoyed working together.

The kitchen was filled with chatter and laughter, as we tackled the many steps of carefully wrapping roughly 300 Christmas Cakes, knowing we were helping fund girls’ education kept us motivated.

By the end of the day, the cakes looked amazing, all neatly wrapped and decorated. It felt so good to be part of something meaningful and to spend the day with my friends doing something for a great cause. I’ll always remember how rewarding it was to know we made a small but important difference.
