A difficult farewell
A difficult farewell, and one final opportunity to support Girls education.
Dear friends of a Girl & her world,
We are sharing some of the hardest news we have had to deliver.
After 14 years of supporting Girls and their families in Fiji, the Board and leadership team of a Girl & her world have made the profoundly difficult decision to cease operations at the end of 2026.
We are incredibly proud of what this community has achieved together.
However, like many organisations in the for-purpose sector, we have been navigating an increasingly challenging funding environment.
Since 2012, we have had the privilege of walking alongside Girls and families in rural Fiji, helping remove some of the practical barriers that can prevent Girls from getting to school and staying there.
Over the years, we have seen the incredible difference that small amounts of support can make.
From school fees and uniforms to books, bags, transport and other essential support, we have always believed that a Girl’s circumstances should not determine whether she gets the opportunity to learn.
We have watched Girls stay in school, complete their education and begin to build futures filled with greater choice and opportunity.
And at the heart of that work has been our wonderful Fiji Coordinator, Urmila.
Urmila has been part of this journey from the very beginning. Her compassion, determination and deep connection to her community have been fundamental to everything we have achieved.
In many ways, a Girl & her world grew from the simple idea that Urmila’s daughter should have the chance to stay in school.
We have recently lost one of our major corporate partners, and despite our efforts to find a sustainable way forward and keep the organisation operating, we have not been able to secure the ongoing support required to continue.
But we don’t want to simply close our doors, we want to make our final months count.
Our priority now is to use the funds we have available as carefully and effectively as possible to provide a final small amount of support to Girls before the organisation closes, including helping some Girls return to school for the next school year.
We also want to recognise Urmila’s extraordinary contribution over the past 14 years and provide her with an honorarium as part of our final chapter.

How you can help
If you have supported a Girl & her world over the years, we would love you to stand with us one last time.
Our tax-deductible status will end on 30 September 2026. Eligible donations made on or before 30 September will be tax deductible. Donations made after this date will not be tax deductible through a Girl & her world.
We will also be selling Christmas cakes again for the final time this year. More to come on that soon.
To our regular donors, corporate partners, volunteers, Girl Ambassadors, cake buyers, friends and supporters, whether you have been with us since 2012 or joined us more recently, thank you.
Your generosity has helped Girls stay in school and has helped create opportunities that might otherwise not have existed.
The organisation may be coming to an end, but the education, confidence and opportunities that those Girls have gained belong to them forever.
