‘My humanity is bound up in yours…’

Tonight I am getting ready for a very early start in the morning. A 4.30am taxi pick up to get me to the airport so I can fly to PNG for work. I will be visiting women in the highlands and meeting some amazing people doing some inventive things to serve their communities. I can’t wait. Necessity is the mother of invention as the saying goes and I love seeing how people discover their own solutions.

This morning a group of girls from the German International School in Sydney got up early too and made their way to the airport bound for Fiji. Excited texts from our coordinator Urmila told me they arrived safely and I can only imagine the scene in that humble home that I love this evening.

The girls will be documenting the start to finish of a chicken coup set up while they are there for a school project and will see how the family they have fundraised for will benefit from being able to earn an income. I imagine their teenage mindsets will be challenged and they will come home with renewed energy to make a difference.

Relationships will be forged and an unlikely 2 way exchange will take place that will make each life that much richer.

That’s what I love about what we do. We can make a difference to people’s day to day, but in the process they make a difference in ours in unexpected ways. ‘My humanity is bound up in yours…’
