Back to school

Our Girls have been busy over the last month as they settle into school or uni and get back into a routine. Thank you for all your generous donations last year!  You helped get 56 Girls back to school and 4 young women into university – what an amazing achievement!

Our Program Coordinator Urmilla, has been working tirelessly to provide support where needed.

Most recently she worked with a mother who works as a market vendor and has 9 children. She was struggling to get her two youngest Girls back to school and was considering keeping them home.

The Girls were supposed to start Year 1 and Year 4 this year, and Urmilla knew that it was important to ensure these Girls had an education to help end the cycle of poverty.

She worked with their mother to understand what the barriers were, and she realised all they needed was their enrolment fee and the bus fare. This was something we could easily provide, so Urmilla worked with the local Principal, and in the end they only missed 2 weeks of first term!

Some of the barriers to school and university are so easily removed – for example $125 can help with an enrolment fee and $200 covers a yearly bus pass.

We’ll continue running our $5 Friday campaign throughout the year, if you have any spare change it all adds up to make a big difference.

Can you help? Donate today.
